Vera's Buddy Remington came over for a visit
I thought I took more pictures than this. Next time we get together we'll take a bunch more of the girls. I met Remington's mom, Jenna at one of our parenting classes before Vera was born. Remy was born about a week after Vera.
Remington's Grammy is Janet, the lactation consultant at Del Webb Hospital were I had Vera. Janet also teaches all of the prenatal classes at the hospital. Janet has proven to be my lifesaver on several occasions.

A good friend and neighbor, Aimee is one of the leaders for her church's youth group. One night she brought the girls over for a sewing project. They were learning to make pajama pants for their upcoming camping trip.

Father's Day
Since we weren't together on Mother's day we decided to really do it up for Father's day. The Rodzina took a day trip up to Sedona. We walked through the shops and had lunch at a Mexican restaurant. After we were done in town, we went driving through the canyon. It was beautiful! We had such a nice time. It was relaxing and fun. Vera really enjoyed playing in the creek. We think this would be a nice tradition for next year.

Geoff's New Shed
I was going to buy Geoff a shed for father's day. While I was home last my Dad and I went looking for one that would suit out back yard. Well, Geoff beat me to it. He already had a plan in mind for his new "barn". I was thinking of something much smaller because of the cost and size of our backyard. Since Geoff made the shed himself we saved a lot of money. It's very spacious inside and there's plenty of growing room for future outdoor stuff. His buddy Matt came over to help with the project. Together they completed it in two Saturday's.

Making Baby Food
Kylie and I both decided to feed the babies homemade baby food. It's pretty simple but I bought us both a book that gives instruction on how to make the food and at what stage of development to introduce it to the baby. Here's a couple of the foods that I have made for Vera so far. You'll have to check out later postings for when she starts eating these yummy solids we made and froze. Solids don't start until 6 months.

Geoff's eye dr. gives free eye apts for babies at 6 months. At 6 months V-dawg (Bono from U2) went in for a check up to make sure her eyes were working. We already knew they were but we wanted to take advantage of the service.

We decided to make her baby food fresh. So each week I buy produce that I steam and puree. What ever she doesn't eat, I freeze in fancy-shaped ice cube trays and store in freezer bags in the freezer. We started introducing solids to Vera at 6 months. She started with Rice Cereal and then her first real solid food was peas. I don't know how much she liked them, but she really enjoyed using the spoon. Every Sunday we start a new food. (Which makes Monday morning diapers a new adventure every time!)

Home Sweet Home
These are just pictures from our walk, but it's a symbol of much more. This was our first day back home after being gone for almost a whole month. It was REALLY nice to get back into our routine. Everyday, Vera gets up at 8am, she gets a new diaper, eats and watches Sesame Street (her favorite part is Abby Cadabby). When Sesame Street is over we go for a 2.5 mile (aprox) walk. When we get back she eats again, gets a new diaper, plays a little then goes down for her first nap. Her afternoon isn't as structured but she goes down for another nap at about 4pm and bedtime is 9pm. This routine works really well for us. Ah...Home Sweet Home!

During my long visit back east, Kylie and I made plans way before I left Arizona to drive from her house to Ohio. Here's the road trip pictures from North Carolina to Ohio. There aren't many. Since both the babies sleep really well through the night, we figured our best bet was to drive during that time. We left at 9pm and arrived at my Dad's house some time around 9:30am. We did pretty well. They both woke some time around 5am, we fed and diapered them then finished our drive. Of course, we took turns driving while the other slept.

Bed Time
Vera has been a great sleeper since she was about 4 weeks old (with the exception of family invasions). When she hit about 3 months she would wake up every once in a while in the middle of the night. I read somewhere that if you take off your shirt and put it in the crib with the baby, they smell you and it comforts them back to sleep. So I tried it - and it worked! This is one of the cutest things to date. Here's Vera cuddled up to my PJ shirt. I can hear sucking noises after I give it to her. I've never seen her suck her thumb so I'm pretty sure she's sucking on my shirt! Too stinking cute!

Weekend Fun
Saturday before the baptism Vera and I had a fun day together. We spent most of the day together while mommy was working on sewing projects:

Trying to get things done around the house with Vera is almost impossible so we figured out a way to do it. Strap her in the front carrier so you have hands free to do some chores around the house like dusting. Just watch out for objects while rotating around the house...the kid's head is a magnet for protruding objects around the house!

Saturday night mommy sent Vera and dad out for icecream at the grocery store. I think it was mainly to get us out of her hair so she could finish her sewing project. So while out at the store, Vera just HAD to HAVE some girlscout cookies....so I let her buy some!

So Fat Tuesday marked the beginning of starting Vera on taste testing. On Fat Tuesday we had our traditional Paczis after dinner at the White Eagle. Lacey took some cream filling from her Paczi and put it on her finger for little Vera to sample. After that we were trying to figure out what to give her that is a little healthier. So St. Patty's Day I bought some strawberries from the farmer's market down the street. I bit of the tip and let Vera lick and suck on it. Well of course she enjoyed it immensely and below are some pictures of our first experience with strawberries:

Getting to Ohio was a total nightmare. Geoff had to work in Vegas so I flew by myself with the baby. Geoff had a flight booked to be in Ohio the day after me. We left early to make sure we had plenty of time to go through airport security. That alone was a stressful event. We had 6 Grey bins, plus I had a brand new baby with me – during winter. We both were bundled up; which means more stuff to send through the conveyor. TSA had to help me through because it’s impossible to manage a new baby and all the junk by yourself.
Look - I'm still smiling! That's because I was still in Phili (where we were laid over). We loaded the plan about 20 minutes late, so I called everyone to let them know we would be landing a little late. Turned out - REALLY late. We were about to land in Akron, when the pilot came over the speaker - if the fog doesn't lighten up within the next 10 minutes, we're turning back to Phili. Yes, my nightmare came true. By the time we got back to the Philadelphia airport it was about 12:30AM - we were staying the night in Philadelphia. Vera needed to eat and have her diaper changed. I opened the diaper bag...only one diaper left! Oh my gosh! I changed her diaper then as soon as I walked through the threshold of the public bathroom - what do you know...PLOP. Vera just dirtied the last diaper within minutes of wearing it!
More good news. Airport transportation stops at 10pm - stranded! Thankfully I sat next to the nicest man on the plan. He took me under his wing and helped me through getting a hotel and took us to the hotel. He dropped us off safe and sound then went back out to get us diapers and a 24 hour mini-mart. After everything was said and done, Vera and I got to the hotel at about 3am. Micheal was an angel! Thank God for good people like him. Boy was I stressed out, but I don't think Vera noticed a thing. She was just happy to hang out with mom all day!

Browns Family
Well the last game of the season for the Browns and it was actually televised out here in Arizona! So we, as a family, decided to stay home and watch the game. So we got dressed up in our Browns garb and got comfortable. Vera completely exploded in her Browns outfit so we had to change her out of it after this picture. With the way the Browns performed during this game I guess she knew the outcome before the game started....soiling her garb was the deserving action for the Browns!

Vera’s Brunch
Since we baptized Vera here in Arizona, we decided to go back home and have a family get together to celebrate. We went to Lock Keepers Inn for Brunch. It was a really nice restaurant and the food was yummy. It was a nice way to kick of our month long stay back east.

Bed Time
Vera has been a great sleeper since she was about 4 weeks old (with the exception of family invasions). When she hit about 3 months she would wake up every once in a while in the middle of the night. I read somewhere that if you take off your shirt and put it in the crib with the baby, they smell you and it comforts them back to sleep. So I tried it - and it worked! This is one of the cutest things to date. Here's Vera cuddled up to my PJ shirt. I can hear sucking noises after I give it to her. I've never seen her suck her thumb so I'm pretty sure she's sucking on my shirt! Too stinking cute!

Weekend Fun
Saturday before the baptism Vera and I had a fun day together. We spent most of the day together while mommy was working on sewing projects:

Trying to get things done around the house with Vera is almost impossible so we figured out a way to do it. Strap her in the front carrier so you have hands free to do some chores around the house like dusting.
