Vacation to San Diego

We took a trip to San Diego. Both of the girls did a great job on the way there. Zenya slept almost the whole drive with the exception of eating when we stopped. Vera played and sang all the way to San Diego. She has a couple favorite songs right now. She loves the classics, like Ring around the Rosie but her favorite radio song is Never Ever Getting Back Together by Taylor Swift. We really need to video tape her singing that one!
After we settled in at the condo we took a walk down to the beach. By then it was getting late so we didn't stay long but it was nice to scope out our territory for the next week.

SEA WORLD!!!!
Oh my goodness, I don't think we could have packed any more fun into one day. Vera loved it last year, but this year was just awesome to see her get excited over EVERYTHING. I look forward to the day that Zenya gets a kick out of this stuff too. I can't tell you how blessed we are for having TWO amazing little girls!
What a trouper Zenya is. We lugged her around to all the attractions and she happily went. She was such a good baby! We only made it to two shows, Shamu and Pets Rule; which we saw twice. It doesn't sound like much, but it was plenty considering the little ones.
The girls wore color coordinating outfits that Aunt Chelsie gave them while she was in town. Their outfits even included bright sun hats. The sun hats came in handy a couple times when Geoff and I got split up. We were able to easily find each other with these bright pink beacons!
Zenya didn't really care for the Shamu show. She began to get agitated right when the show started. Everything worked out though. It was hot so Geoff decided to sit in the Soak-Zone. We sat in the 10th row so the baby and I went up to the top of the stairs and waited out the wet portions of the show. It worked out well because I was able to get good video footage from where we stood. Geoff and Vera braved it, but every freezing cold drop missed them.

As it turned out, it wasn't Shamu that Zenya didn't like. It was the nasty diaper blowout she was sitting in. Zenya and I made a pit stop to make sure she was clean and well hydrated. Daddy and Vera kept moving to the next exciting event. We met up with them at the Pet's Rule show already in progress. When we caught up Vera had a glazed look and a frozen smile on her face as she watched the animals do their tricks.

This year Vera was tall enough to ride a couple rides. Her first ride was the Abby Cadabby Sea Star Ride (Tea Cup Ride). She spotted it from really far away so of course we made a beeline to Abby. Once we were up close Vera kept saying "Abby Dancing". The large Abby figure on top of the ride spins in circles as the ride is in motion.

We also made it over to the Oscar and Elmo rides. Vera really enjoyed this thrilling new experience and I have to admit Geoff and I loved it too! Zenya slept in her stroller and Geoff and I traded kids.

Sea World has Halloween Spooktacular during the month of October. Vera dressed up as Mini Mouse and Zenya went as Cheer Bear. They have little trick-or-treat stops throughout the park where the kids get free candy. Vera is going to love Halloween this year!
When Vera saw the "real" Elmo she went nuts and practically hurdled every small child and obstacle to get to him. I'm not joking, this would have been a good time for a child-leash. She eagerly hugged Abby and gave her a big kiss. Then Vera just stared at her with a big excited smile. There was certainly no fear in meeting her best friends. We took pictures with the rest of the Sesame Street crew and also got their autographs.
The second time we went to see Pet's Rule Zenya stayed up to watch. By this time of day, the sun had begun to set so there was shaded seating and it was starting to cool off. We had been careful all day to make sure Zenya's sensitive skin was not abused by the sun so this was a great opportunity to let her fully enjoy the experience. She sat on my lap and looked around. She was pretty happy to be with the rest of us!
On our way out of the park after this show we stopped to see a couple of the Sea World Characters. It was late in the day and Vera didn't take a nap so she was pretty hesitant to get close to these beautiful creatures. Look at that mean-mug! We knew our time was limited.
Finally right by the gates to leave we saw Cookie Monster. Geoff and I looked at each other, we both had one unsaid thought: should we really try to squeeze another character picture...
And the answer was YES! Vera perked up and walked right up to him like she's known him for years. No fear, no cranky face - just excitement. Both of the girls got their picture taken and we got his autograph as well.
Our very long and exhausting day was complete. We proceeded to the car. As we put Vera into her car seat the realization that our fun day was over had set in, she blasted out "No!" and started crying. Zenya really enjoyed herself too.
Now, with two kids we see all the coordination and planning that goes into family vacations! It's a lot of work, but hands down worth it a million times over!

Nick and Michele happened to be in town for a family party so we met up with them and watched a few minutes of football. Here's a picture of Vera and Katelynn playing while the rest of us visited. Yes, we could have done all this back home, but it was a lazy day so it worked out perfect for all of us.
After Nick, Michele and Katelynn left for Phoenix, our family had Vera's favorite lunch: Mac & Cheese and a Corn Dog. After lunch we went down to the bay to splash and play. This little cove is about 3/4mi from our condo. It's perfect because the water is calm, the beach is clean and it's not very busy.

Our days seem to fly by. It's all down hill by dinner time. After we eat our bedtime routine is underway. The girls are were in bed by 8.

Pacific Beach and Belmont Park
We had another slow morning then drove down to Belmont Park. We set up camp on the beach then played in the ocean. We had a picnic lunch then went for a bike ride through the touristy section of Mission Bay.

We borrowed the bikes from the condo owner and hooked up the trailer and toddler seat. The attachments only worked on one bike so Geoff had both the girls attached to him. Luckily it's a pretty flat ride. The views are amazing and there was plenty to see. I don't know how this is possible, but Vera managed to fall asleep in the toddler seat. Zenya also managed to sleep but she was buckled into to her comfy car seat which was strapped in to the trailer.

We stopped for some ice cream then headed back to base for dinner. We hustled through the normal evening routine, both girls were bathed and in bed by 7:15. They are really enjoying their time in San Diego, boy are they beat!

La Jolla Beach
We met up with Veronica, my friend from KSU. She drove down from LA. We got lucky, she is between "shows" this week. Veronica works as a set designer in Hollywood. I don't know her exact title, but I know it's a big deal to her so I'm sorry if I've inaccurately described her profession. We met for lunch at Barbarella's. We walked by this pub last year and Geoff really wanted to stop, but we already ate. This year it was built into the plans. When you look at the pictures, you'll understand why Geoff was so interested in stopping in.
We played on the playground at the beach for a little while before Veronica arrived. We had a lot of fun at this place last year too. It's kid friendly, there's lots of other parents there. The beach has nice sand and the surf is fairly tame.

We also went back to the La Jolla Cliffs where the seals and sea lions sun themselves on the rocks. It's a pretty nice sidewalk along the cliffs edge and it's easy to see the wildlife. There's many reasons to remember this area, but the most memorable is the horrible stink in the air from these animals! Yuk! This neat little trek comes at a price!
We stopped at a nice little coffee shop with a beautiful view of the cove. It was really nice to catch up.
We went back to the beach to watch the sunset. I think most would agree that a beautiful sun set never gets old. It's always a treat to see something so pretty!

Vera is a pro at this Sesame Street Meet and Greet. There were kids in line in front of us and behind us that were terrified of the "monsters". Not Vera, when it was her turn she literally ran up to them with open arms and a big smile! Today we met Big Bird, Ernie and Elmo (Abby couldn't make it) Holly cow, I know this is completely unreasonable and it would lose it's luster, but I seriously thought about buying an Elmo costume.

It really is priceless to see your kids face light up! It's a shame that their memories don't start to stick until age 3-ish. I guess that's just one more good reason to come back again and again! I'm sure the girls will appreciate the vast number of pictures we take when they get older.

Mission Bay
Because we had so much fun at Sea World we eased into the day. We didn't leave the house until lunch time.

We rode our bikes down to the bay and set up camp. We brought a 2 man tent and set it up on the beach. The tent worked out great, we were able to store all of our stuff inside while we were in the water or out site seeing. It provided great protection for Zenya too.
After we set up our site we took a bike ride around the bay. It was a nice relaxing path with several playgrounds along the way. After passing several Vera couldn't take it any more. We had to stop and it was a nice one. This playground was huge! She loves the swings and slides but her new skill is climbing the ropes and ladders. She scurries up them in a hurry, getting down is a different story! "Help Please", meaning she's ready to get down.
We went back to the Green Flash for dinner, this is the same place we stopped at on our last night last year too. It's a nice restaurant right on the beach. It's best experienced at sunset, so we made it in plenty of time. Both the girls fell asleep on the car ride over. Zenya doesn't have a hard time falling asleep in the car, but it is an extremely rare event for Vera. It's even more unheard of to be able to get her out of the car seat still sleeping. She managed to stay asleep through our entire dinner. She was whipped! Vera is becoming more and more independent and Zenya takes up most of my cuddle time so it was really nice to cuddle up to Vera. Zenya woke up toward the end of dinner so Geoff and I enjoyed the entire meal with peace and quiet as we watched the sunset on the ocean's horizon.

Cute story...so we finally got both the girls in bed and Geoff and I have been packing up the condo. Geoff went to check on the girls and heard Vera talking in her sleep. She was dreaming about meeting Elmo! In her sleep she lazily reached her arms out and said "Elmo". That by itself was worth the price of admission to Sea World!
What an amazing vacation! But wait there's more...we're going to pack up in the morning, then head to the beach once more before starting our drive back to the Phoenix heat.

Almost time to go. We didn't want our vacation to end so we stayed at Pacific Beach and Belmont Park up until the very last minute. We pulled out of San Diego around 5pm and headed home from there. We went for a walk and squeezed in a little more beach time.

Bo on the Go
The next couple videos are about as close to watching the "Bo on the Go" with Vera as you can without being here in person. This show focuses on kids up and moving. Vera loves it! This is definitely her favorite show right now. I have to say Geoff and I like it too because there's a portion where "Bo" (the main character) tells the viewers, called "Bo Buddies", to clean up their "Bo Zone". So Vera scurries around picking up her toys to get ready to watch the rest of the program.

In this episode they are trying to find Fruity Pa-Tootie because he is eating up all the fruits and vegetables. During each adventure they have to open 3 doors but they are locked so the "Bo Buddies" have to reach for the sky to get the flying key.

Bo Buddies pretend to be different animals, "animoves" to get through the obstacles to get to the next door. In this case Vera is pretending to be a giraffe and she's stepping over watermelons in a watermelon patch.

Each time they accomplish their goal, Bo Buddies celebrate by doing a "Bo Boogie". The characters on TV just do a dance, but since Vera knows what a booger is, she added holding her noes while she dances. Geoff and I both got a kick out of that the first time!

Nursing Mom's Support Group
We welcomed Zenya and celebrated Carlton's 1st Birthday and
Vera and Zenya with the blankets Remington's Gramma made them.
What a great day! Fun with all Vera's friends then home to play outside. Vera and Keegan had a great time with their finger paint projects.
We filled every day with as much fun as we could fit while Aunt Kylie and Keegan were here. We had magic hot dogs for dinner the first night they were here!

Mommy made a fancy Lunch. It's a picture - use your imagination. The cottage cheese is a cloud, the sandwich is a butterfly, the watermelon is a flower and the apple is rolling hills. Vera could have cared less, it was still food to her, she ate the cottage cheese and Geoff had the rest.
We tried to have a green bubble bath, but it didn't work out as planned. The bubbles were supposed to be green, but all we seemed to accomplish was lightly discoloring the water green. Vera still loved it!
To cap off the night we painted our toenails blue!
